Parish News

A warm welcome to everyone. Tea and coffee are served after the 10.00am Mass on Sundays and the 09.30 Mass on Wednesdays; all are invited to join us. Father Alex offers a warm welcome to anyone who is visiting the parish this week.

Clergy Thought: The 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time Year C teaches about faith, readiness, and trust in God. The readings encourage believers to stay faithful, prepare for what is to come, and rely on God’s promises. Faith means trusting God even when life is uncertain. We are reminded as believers that we need to stay faithful, live responsibly, and prepare for what God has planned. When we become too attached to material possessions and care too much about what others think of us, we lose sight of Christ’s presence in our lives. That is why it is important to be watchful and focus on prayer and acts of kindness. By aligning our hearts with God’s plan, we become wise servants who are ready to welcome the Lord when He comes to us. May God bless us all. Amen! Fr Alex

CAFOD: Celebrate the Season of Creation as Pilgrims of Hope with CAFOD

CAFOD in East Anglia and Sawston Live Simply group invite you to join us on Saturday 6 September 2025 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 135 High St, Sawston, Cambridge CB22 3HJ. Coffee will be served from 10.30am followed by a presentation from Jo Kitterick, CAFOD’s Director of Participation and Fundraising from 11 am to 12.30pm. In her presentation Jo will link the Jubilee of Hope and the garden of peace which is the theme of this year’s Season of Creation to the work of CAFOD’s international partners. All are welcome to join us. There is no need to book a place but if you would like more information contact Jane Crone jcrone@cafod.org.uk

The Norfolk Churches Trust Bike Ride is on Saturday 13th September. I won't be riding this year so am hoping that others might Bike, Walk or Drive. It is a great opportunity to visit Churches that are normally closed. Also, you don't need to go far as there are several Churches in Diss and surrounding villages. It would be good to have our Church open if possible, so volunteers needed please. Sponsor Forms and information in the office. Maggie

Save the Date: Our parish and others in the Bury St Edmund deanery will come together at the Bishop’s invitation and celebrate the work of organisations involved in social outreach at a Caritas East Anglia Festival on Saturday 6 December 2025  at St Edmund, King and Martyr, 21 Westgate Street, Bury St Edmunds IP33 1QG.  from 10:00 to 12:30. If there are charitable social actions or organisations, i.e., people coming together to help improve their lives and solve the problems that are important in their communities, that you would like to see or think that should be represented at the Festival, particularly if you are involved in them yourself, please e-mail your ideas to caritas@rcdea.org.uk now. The festival will begin at 10.00 am with Mass celebrated by Bishop Peter and be followed by refreshments and opportunities to find out about local projects. It will end at 12:15 pm with prayer and reflection on the day. ALL WELCOME to attend for part of or the whole event.
